Public Plant Sale: September 21-22 10am-6pm

Join us for the 32nd annual Fall Native Plant Sale, where the horticulture staff and volunteers at Reflection Riding offer an impressive selection of trees, shrubs, and perennials. On-site experts available to help with selection. Guided hikes and educational workshops will take place throughout the weekend.

Friday, September 21
10:30am - 11:30am:  Thoreau's Fall garden walk - Join Naturalist and Historian Michael Green for a Nature Walk around our upper pond.  Michael will talk about the Fall Wildflowers and their historical uses during this walk.
12:00pm - 1:00pm:  Beneficial and Harmful Insects in Vegetable and Landscape Plants - Join Tom Stebbins, UT Extension Agent for Hamilton County, to discuss and look at some of the beneficial and harmful insects that might be found in your garden.

1:15pm - 2:15pm:  Emerald Ash Borer - Join City Arborist Gene Hyde for a discussion on one of the great threats to our forest.

2:30pm - 3:30pm:  Planting for Pollinators - Join Ann Brown from the Wild Ones for a discussion on what you should plant and why you should use native plants to attract pollinators.

3:45pm - 4:45pm:  Fall Planting - Join Chris Mahoney to learn about why Fall is the best time to plant trees, shrubs and grasses and techniques to plant them successfully.

4:00pm - 6:00pm: The American Chestnut Restoration Program - Join American Chestnut researcher Trent Deason to learn about the history, current status and restoration plans for the American Chestnut.  There will be a discussion followed by a walk out to our experimental site to see the Chestnut trees.  The walk will be approximately 1 mile.

5:00pm - 6:00pm:  Managing Invasive Plants - Join Reflection Riding Invasive Specialist Byron Brooks to learn about identifying and managing invasive species in the Chattanooga area.
Saturday, September 22

9:00am - 10:00am:  Coffee Walk - Join Naturalist Justin Hupp warm up before the Plant Sale.  Coffee Walks are a fun way to learn about the property and enjoy a tasty brew while learning about the natural world around you.

10:00am - 3:00pm:  Landscape Architect Consultations - Meet with WMW and Associates Principle Matt Whitaker to discuss your hardest sustainable landscaping challenges. Choose from a 15 or 30-minute consultation for $15 or $30. Thanks to Whitaker's generous donation of his time, all proceeds will benefit Reflection Riding.

11:45am - 12:15pm:  Red Wolf Feeding - Join Naturalist Justin Hupp for a chance to feed the 8th most endangered Mammal in the world, the Red Wolf.  During the feeding, Justin will have a Question/Answer session on the story of the Red Wolf.

12:00pm - 1:00pm:  Planting Trees and Shrubs Successfully - Join Erica Lewis, Arborist and member of the Chattanooga Tree Commission, to discuss and learn techniques and timing that will increase your odds of successfully planting trees and shrubs in the Chattanooga area.

1:15pm - 2:15pm:  Fall Planting for Hummingbirds - Join Chris Mahoney to learn about plantings that you can do in the Fall to prepare for next year’s hummingbirds.

2:00pm - 4:00pm: Healing Through Southern Color: Medicinal Plant-Based Printing Workshop - Join this medicinal plant-based printing workshop to learn the basic skills of block/stencil printing using natural colors extracted from local plants. $30 per person.
2:30pm - 4:30pm:  Understanding the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid - Join Jann George, an expert on the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, to learn about how to identify an infestation and the best management techniques once a tree is attacked.
