Shrum/Smoker Nativity Canceled, Saturday, December 8, 2018

Saturday, December 8, 2018

The Shrum/Smoker families at 4700 and 4704 Tennessee Avenue invite you to our sidewalk/yard live nativity with the beautiful animals from Bagby's Critter Corral and our family members as they continue a long tradition of bringing in the Christmas season with all of you!
The nativity will begin at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sat night, December 8th.
Please join us and for those who believe in Santa (like we do) he will be on the sidewalk as well!
A gracious neighboring family has offered hot chocolate for your enjoyment also!
A memory not to be missed by old and young alike we hope to see you there! Baby Jesus, beautiful animals, Santa, and hot chocolate. Does life get any better than this? We are so blessed, St.Elmo!
Thanks,
Shrum/Smoker Families

Shrum/Smoker Nativity Canceled
Greetings St. Elmo Neighbors,
It is with great sadness that we have to cancel our family live nativity scheduled for tomorrow night at 6 p.m. For about 9 years we have been blessed with somewhat reasonable weather (drizzly rain, bitter cold) for our gift to the neighborhood and our family Christmas kick off. However, this year the weather seems to be not only inclement but somewhat dangerous for outdoor activities. Please try to get by at your convenience to enjoy the Christmas lights with family or friends during the season and stay cozy, warm, and counting your blessings wherever Sat night finds you. Know you are in our hearts and prayers and keep us in yours!
Merry Christmas, St. Elmo,
Shrum/Smoker Families

Soldiers killed in battle were not always treated equally. Sometimes officers were removed under flag of truce to be provided a proper burial, while enlisted men were lucky to have a few inches of dirt thrown down as a grave. What did it take to remove these heroes from the fields on which they fell.

Historic Holiday Program, Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, 2018

Historic Holiday Program
Multiple Days: 11/30/2018, 12/01/2018
Free
On Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a Christmas Open House at the Cravens House, located on Lookout Mountain. The house will be decorated in a manner very similar to the Civil War era. This special holiday event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm, with tours beginning every 30 minutes. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, and for more information about this event, please contact the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center.
The holidays in 1863 were unlike anything Chattanoogans expected the previous year. Just one month before Christmas Day, Union forces successfully drove Confederates off Missionary Ridge, and for the first time in three years, Chattanoogans celebrated Christmas under the stars and stripes. However, there was little time to celebrate. Debris of war still littered the city, and on Christmas Day 1863, General George Thomas ordered the establishment of the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Join us for this special program at the Cravens House as we explore how the residents and soldiers of Chattanooga marked the holiday season 155 years ago.

USAF Airmen of Note Live in Cleveland, TN, Saturday, November 17, 2018

USAF Airmen of Note Live in Cleveland, TN!
by The U.S. Air Force Band
Saturday, November 17, 2018
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Join the Airmen of Note live as they tour Virginia and Tennessee! It has been far too long since the band has performed in this part of the country. The concerts are sure to thrill, featuring brand-new selections from the Airmen of Note’s latest album which will be released later this year!
The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., it is one of six musical ensembles that comprise The U.S. Air Force Band. Created in 1950 to continue the tradition of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Forces dance band, the current band consists of 18 active duty Airmen musicians including one vocalist.
Through the years, the Airmen of Note has presented its own brand of big band jazz as well as more contemporary forms of jazz to audiences via annual tours across the United States, deployments around the world and local performances throughout metropolitan Washington, D.C. For smaller, more intimate venues, the Airmen of Note Combo and various individual musicians perform apart from the full band to support military and civilian ceremonial and diplomatic events.

As part of The U.S. Air Force Band, The Airmen of Note honors those who have served, inspires American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and positively impacts the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States. The excellence demonstrated by these Airmen musicians is a reflection of the excellence displayed by Airmen stationed around the globe. Each member is proud to represent all Airmen, whose selfless service and sacrifices ensure the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.
