Chattanooga Functional Forum Wednesday, January 30, 2019

Chattanooga Functional Forum
by Chattanooga Functional Forum
Wednesday, January 30, 2019
6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Happy New Year! After some planning, it's time to bring the best practitioners in Functional Medicine together to form a true Fuctional Forum in the Chattanooga area! We want to bring like minded integrative, functional practitioners together in a safe, friendly, supportive environment.
The topic for this first one will be on Hormones, and Metagenics will provide a speaker. In the future, it would be great to have a local practitioner present a difficult case that they have solved or is un-resolved. Then it can be opened up for discussion amongst practitioners for discussion or ideas on treatment. If you wish to present in the future, please let us know at the meeting and we can select a month for you to present.
The goal will be to hold these every month on the 4th Wednesday of the nonth at 6:30pm at the Retreat at the Wellness Corner and grow the group. We will need a committee to take over the organization and email invitation every month, but we will discuss this at the meeting. If you wish to be on that committee please let us know at that time.
This is a great place to come together and network and get to know your fellow functional practitioners.
The first couple forums will be sponsored by Metagenics and we are hopeful that as it grows, others will want to sponsor as well.

Please spread the word to other practitioners that you know would be interested or bring them with you. We will compile an email list at the meeting. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Hospital Parking Increase 2019

Just to warn others, Erlanger Hospital's Parking Garage has Increased their fee.  I remember when they had the Erlanger Healthlink Plus card that you could show for free parking in the garage.  After they did away with that freebie, parking in the garage was $1.  Apparently the cost is now $2.  And the machine inside to pay does not accept coins.  I only brought one dollar (not realizing that the price was increased) and was digging for spare change to pay the other dollar.  I googled it, and Yes, prices went up January 1, 2019.
Just a Heads Up.

Parking rates rise to $2 at Erlanger's downtown parking garage; valet parking still free at five locations

Erlanger Health System officials announced that parking rates in the hospital's downtown parking garage will increase from $1 to $2 starting Jan. 1, 2019.
Rob Brooks, Erlanger's chief operating officer, said in a news release that the increase will help offset rising costs of maintaining the parking garage, multiple valet services, labor, parking lots and shuttles at Erlanger.
"This increase is also needed to cover expenses for building additional lots at our downtown campus," said Brooks, noting that "Erlanger's expansive growth has led to the need for more lots."
Those with handicap tags will continue to park free in Erlanger's garage, and free parking is still available to patients and visitors using the hospital's valet services at the main entrance, outside the emergency rooms, the West Wing Surgical Services entrance and the new Children's Hospital Outpatient Center.
Hospital volunteers will also continue to be able to park free, as well as members of the clergy who are visiting patients and students with Erlanger badges doing clinical rotations at the hospital.

Patients and visitors who park in Erlanger's garage without leaving will pay $2, regardless of the number of hours or days they stay in the hospital. There are approximately 1,000 parking spaces on the ground, first and second levels of the Erlanger parking garage reserved for patients and visitors.

Bemer's Revolutionary Technology
by Nutrition World
Saturday, January 26, 2019
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Most people are familiar with the importance of circulation. This is a key component to us living and breathing on this earth. However, what is not focused on is how can we improve circulation within the micro-circulatory system. This is specifically referring to the health of our capillaries. Capillaries have two extremely important jobs. They carry vital nutrients into the body but even more important they allow for unwanted toxins to leave the system when they are functioning properly. The patented Bemer technology is a chair system that for 8 minutes a day improves the function of this vital system. The benefits seen are magnificent! Come learn about this technology and receive 3 free appointments to try our Bemer technology at your convenience by attending the lecture!

Join Outdoor Chattanooga’s experienced guide staff for a guided hike on the scenic Cumberland Trail. This is one of 9 different short section hikes (5-7 miles each) on the Cumberland Trail being offered as part of our Cumberland Trail Hiking Series. (See schedule below)
The Cumberland Trail is known for its beauty, mountain streams and remote setting. The trail is single track, and the sections we have chosen are in direction of traveling mostly downhill (a couple short climbs) where hikers may need to high step over rocks, deadfall and other obstacles. New hikers should expect this route to be challenging but certainly attainable. Guides and a shuttle will be provided for the one way trek so you can enjoy the scenic views and sounds of nature without the worry of getting lost.

Cost: FREE. Registration is required in advance as space is limited in the shuttle vehicle. All details about the section hikes are given to participants upon registration via email. The CT is a remote trail over rugged terrain. We ask participants have some hiking experience and be in good physical shape to hike 4-7 miles continuously on sections rated as moderately strenuous. Lesley Scearce, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Chattanooga, says “We are proud allies in the local conversation around ACEs, it’s crucial to connect different sectors of the community around the important question of how we can protect and support Chattanooga’s children through trauma intervention.”
