Historic Holiday Program, Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, 2018

Historic Holiday Program
Multiple Days: 11/30/2018, 12/01/2018
Free
On Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a Christmas Open House at the Cravens House, located on Lookout Mountain. The house will be decorated in a manner very similar to the Civil War era. This special holiday event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm, with tours beginning every 30 minutes. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, and for more information about this event, please contact the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center.
The holidays in 1863 were unlike anything Chattanoogans expected the previous year. Just one month before Christmas Day, Union forces successfully drove Confederates off Missionary Ridge, and for the first time in three years, Chattanoogans celebrated Christmas under the stars and stripes. However, there was little time to celebrate. Debris of war still littered the city, and on Christmas Day 1863, General George Thomas ordered the establishment of the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Join us for this special program at the Cravens House as we explore how the residents and soldiers of Chattanooga marked the holiday season 155 years ago.

USAF Airmen of Note Live in Cleveland, TN, Saturday, November 17, 2018

USAF Airmen of Note Live in Cleveland, TN!
by The U.S. Air Force Band
Saturday, November 17, 2018
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Join the Airmen of Note live as they tour Virginia and Tennessee! It has been far too long since the band has performed in this part of the country. The concerts are sure to thrill, featuring brand-new selections from the Airmen of Note’s latest album which will be released later this year!
The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., it is one of six musical ensembles that comprise The U.S. Air Force Band. Created in 1950 to continue the tradition of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Forces dance band, the current band consists of 18 active duty Airmen musicians including one vocalist.
Through the years, the Airmen of Note has presented its own brand of big band jazz as well as more contemporary forms of jazz to audiences via annual tours across the United States, deployments around the world and local performances throughout metropolitan Washington, D.C. For smaller, more intimate venues, the Airmen of Note Combo and various individual musicians perform apart from the full band to support military and civilian ceremonial and diplomatic events.

As part of The U.S. Air Force Band, The Airmen of Note honors those who have served, inspires American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and positively impacts the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States. The excellence demonstrated by these Airmen musicians is a reflection of the excellence displayed by Airmen stationed around the globe. Each member is proud to represent all Airmen, whose selfless service and sacrifices ensure the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.

Photographic Society of Chattanooga, Thursday, November 15, 2018

November 15, 2018
Meeting at 7:00 pm
Bill Lea – Nature and Wildlife Photographer

It’s all about the Light!

Just about every subject imaginable has been photographed. The only thing that is going to make your subject stand out from others is the light in which you take it. Understanding the characteristics of light is critical. Most great light is associated with specific weather. Being able to predict that weather and its related light is the key to capturing your photographic subjects in the best possible conditions. This program will teach you what you need to know. When it comes to producing great art – it really is all about the light!

Photographic Society of Chattanooga is presenting Bill Lea Thursday, November 15.  Capturing intimate images of wildlife, scenery, wildflowers, and a variety of other natural subjects in "just the right light" has long been the trademark of Lea's.  He has had more than 7,000 of his photos published in various formats including three front covers in a row on Field & Stream magazine. His program, "It's All About the Light, " begins at 7 p.m  Visitors are always welcome. Theme for the preceding Boot Camp, which begins at 6 p.m. is "Marketing Your Photography"  Both take place at St. John United Methodist Church, 3921 Murray Hills Drive.
