Recital at Covenant College, Thursday, October 30, 2014

On October 30, 2014, the music department at Covenant College will present Sarah Shafer, soprano, in recital.

Shafer recently graduated with degrees in voice and opera from the Curtis Institute of Music, where she performed in more than twenty productions, including Die Zauberflöte, Elegy for Young Lovers, Rinaldo, and I Capuleti e I Montecchi.

Shafer made her debut at the Philadelphia Orchestra and has performed at Carnegie Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall. She has also performed as a soloist with the National Orchestra of Mexico, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Richmond and Maryland Symphony Orchestras. Shafer received two fellowships at Songfest in 2009, and won the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Albert M. Greenfield Competition earlier this year.

Shafer’s father, pianist Tim Shafer, will accompany her on the piano. Sarah Shafer will perform lieder by Brahms and Schubert, selections from Copeland’s Emily Dickinson Songs, Poulenc’s Fiançailles pour rire, and Debussy’s Ariettes oubliées.

The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in Covenant's chapel and is free and open to the public.
