Union Rebels in Lookout Valley

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided car caravan tour on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at 2 pm in association with the 152nd anniversary of the Battle of Wauhatchie. This 90-minute tour will begin at the Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center parking lot at 400 Garden Road, Chattanooga, TN 37419.

The Battle of Wauhatchie, fought during the night of October 28-29, 1863, was a Confederate attempt to regain control of Brown's Ferry and Lookout Valley from Union troops who successfully took Brown's Ferry during the early morning hours of October 27. The battle featured several Union "rebels" who emigrated from Europe following the failed 1848 Revolution. Visitors are encouraged to come and learn the roles played by some of these Union "rebels" in Lookout Valley.

Visitors should wear comfortable and supportive footwear, appropriate clothing for the weather, and bring water.
