Local Governmental Agencies Partner with Area Schools to Celebrate International Walk to School Month
Chattanooga,
Tenn. (October 15, 2014): This City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County
have partnered with Chattanooga area elementary and middle schools for International Walk to School Month.
In
the United States, International Walk to School Month is expected to
include more than 4,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from the
U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.
Walk
to School events create awareness of the need to create safe routes for
walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as
increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, and
creating connections between families, schools, and the broader
community.
Parents, teachers, and community leaders will participate with students at these scheduled Walk to School events in October:
These
events have been organized by the individual schools in cooperation
with city and county departments. Representatives from the following
departments will walk with the students.
· Chattanooga Department of Economic and Community Development
· Chattanooga Department of Transportation
· Chattanooga Fire Department
