On Saturday, June 9, at 10 am, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National
Military Park will provide a 60-minute program at the Brown’s Ferry
Federal Road Trace (707 Moccasin Bend Road, Chattanooga, TN) in Moccasin
Bend National Archeological District. Participants should take the

area.
Twenty-five years before the clouds of Civil War enshrouded the country, the Cherokee traveled the Brown’s Ferry Road across Moccasin Bend as they were forced to leave their ancestral homeland along the Trail of Tears. Thousands of Cherokee people died along these routes to their new homes. The survivors of this forced removal would eventually be caught in the bloodiest conflict in which the country has been engaged. The Cherokee, for the most part, sided with the Southern Confederacy. Why would the majority of the Cherokee people side with the states from which they were forced out?
As a reminder, comfortable, supportive footwear, portable chairs, appropriate clothing for the weather and water are recommended for this program.
