Paycheck to Paycheck Documentary in Chattanooga

In association with the Shriver Report, HBO Documentary Films presents a project centered around the life of one of the families utilizing our Extended Child Care Program. "Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life & Times of Katrina Gilbert" was seen nationally on Monday, March 17th on HBO. The film offers a deeply personal, unvarnished, and moving story of the life of Katrina, a single mom, struggling to get ahead but constantly getting knocked back by a system that almost seems designed to see her fail. Katrina sees Chambliss Center for Children as a large part of her ability to provide for her children. The full film will be shown free online from March 17-24 at www.hbo.com/documentaries/paycheck-to-paycheck-the-life-and-times-of-katrina-gilbert, at www.youtube.com/hbodocs, or at www.shriverreport.org

South Chattanooga Recreation Center closed temporarily, Monday, March 17, 2014

The South Chattanooga Recreation Center will be closed temporarily.
The Red Cross needs the use of the facility to house some people displaced by a fire,
so the center will be closed to the public and programs cancelled at least for today.
My suggestion is to Call the Rec center to make sure they are open to the public if you plan to go there in the near future.

How to Make Berries Last Longer

I was just scanning other blogs and this one from Passion for Savings caught my eye:
How to Make Berries Last Longer!
I haven't tried it myself, but it sounds like it would be worth a try (small batch first to make sure that I Really can not taste the vinegar)  :)

All you need is White Vinegar and Water and a Large Bowl.
Combine 4 Cups Water with 1/2 Cup Vinegar in a Bowl
Place Berries in the Vinegar/Water Mixture to kill the bacteria on the Berries and then remove and lay on a towel to dry. This helps the berries last so much longer! My kids go through a container of Strawberries a day sometimes so I will often buy 4-5 containers and this helps those last few containers last and look fresh even after several days!
Tip: As long as you let the Berries Dry Completely you won’t taste the Vinegar, this evaporates into the air and there is no flavor left behind.
